Tendering and Public Sector Contracts

Following the Autumn Statement, Enterprise Minister Matthew Hancock set out the government’s offer to make it easier for small businesses to grow and create jobs (Dec 2013).  Policy drivers included: ‘access to £230 billion of public sector contracts’ – implementing Lord Young’s recommendations, which were accepted by the Prime Minister in May 2013, to make it easier and simpler for small firms to win public sector business.

Transparency requires Local Authorities to publish information on all spending over £500 locally, including contracts, tenders, grants and expenses, and will open up a vast swathe of information about the way the money flows locally, allowing voluntary, community and social enterprise sector organisations greater access to competitively important information.
